The western boundary is the sea in the form of the Bristol Channel, and the city of Wells and the historic town of Glastonbury lie on the eastern limits of the area. This area is known as the Peat Moors, or the "Vale of Avalon" and is characterized by a very flat landscape at, or very near sea level.

Ancient Sites of Britain The British countryside is littered with relics from prehistory. Some of these are just bumps and ridges in the ground whilst others are huge standing stones that have survived the test of time and human progress. They belonged to a civilization that spanned 2500 years yet left no record of its existence beyond the remains of its ceremonial centers, gathering places and burial sites. Thus, any theories as to the shape of their culture and purpose of these sites is pure conjecture allowing everyone from traditional archaeologists through to new age fantasists to have their own personal hypothesis.
