Peat
Moors - Introduction The Peat Moors of Somerset lie between the Polden Hills
to the south, and the Men dips to the north. The western boundary is the sea in
the form of the Bristol Channel, and the city of Wells and the historic town of
Glastonbury lie on the eastern limits of the area. This area is known as the
Peat Moors, or the "Vale of Avalon" and is characterized by a very
flat landscape at, or very near sea level.
Ancient
Sites of Britain The British countryside is littered with relics from
prehistory. Some of these are just bumps and ridges in the ground whilst others
are huge standing stones that have survived the test of time and human progress.
They belonged to a civilization that spanned 2500 years yet left no record of
its existence beyond the remains of its ceremonial centers, gathering places and
burial sites. Thus, any theories as to the shape of their culture and purpose of
these sites is pure conjecture allowing everyone from traditional archaeologists
through to new age fantasists to have their own personal hypothesis.
Isle

A pilgrimage place for millennia, this is England's 'holiest Earthe'. The story

Historical
Glastonbury
About
Glastonbury The official site with historical and mystical origins, links,
and a plethora of information about the town.
Glastonbury:
The Isle of Avalon Why is Glastonbury identified as the ancient and
mysterious Isle of Avalon where King Arthur was taken to be healed of his fatal
Battle wounds? Surely, Glastonbury lies in the middle of Somerset, miles from
the sea. How could it ever have been considered an island? A well researched
site which includes a map of the Island of Avalon and links to Arthurian
archaeological sites.
Sacred
Sites: Glastonbury "There are times in the history of races when the
things of the inner life come to the surface and find expression, and from these
rendings of the veil the light of the sanctuary pours forth. To them we look
when we seek inspiration. Glastonbury is rarely rich in these things. Here we
find holy relics of many sides of the soul's experience. The deep, remote past
of our race is here." -Dion Fortune - Avalon of the Heart.
Maps
of Glastonbury Puts Glastonbury in geographical context and includes a plan
of the town.
The
Sanctuary at Glastonbury We hold a vision to build and maintain a great
Sanctuary in Glastonbury, the ancient Isle of Avalon, dedicated to the divine
essence within all spiritual paths. Our aim is to create a sacred space of
peace, prayer, meditation and healing in the centre of Glastonbury where
pilgrims of all faiths and spiritual beliefs can meet and celebrate together - a
new vision for a new millennium.

Glastonbury
- Where is the Mist of Avalon? For a very long time I had wanted to see
Glastonbury. I had a rough idea where it was, but never thought I would make it
across the ocean to see it. Little did I know I would be moving to England and
living fairly close to it. Surely now I could go see Glastonbury. Couldn't I?
Wonderful research, first person experience and beautiful photos.
